Oratane 10Mg Side Effects

Oratane 10mg (isotretinoin) is associated with both common and serious side effects. Many patients will not experience all of these, and many side effects are reversible once treatment stops[5].

Common side effects include:

  • Dryness of skin, lips, eyes, or nose (may cause nosebleeds)[2][6]
  • Skin infections, rash, skin fragility[1][5][6]
  • Headaches and blurred vision[5]
  • Back pain, joint pain, muscle pain, and fatigue[4][6]
  • Thinning of hair (more common in men)[5][6]
  • Cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat[2]
  • Bleeding and inflammation of the gums[5]

Serious and less common side effects may include:

  • Peeling of palms and soles of feet[5]
  • Abnormal menstrual cycle, weight loss[5]
  • Mood changes: depression, anxiety, aggression, suicidal thoughts/self-harm[4][5][7]
  • Psychosis: hallucinations, delusions[2][7]
  • Severe headache with blurred vision and dizziness (indicative of increased pressure in the brain)[1][2][3][4][7]
  • Hearing changes: hearing loss, tinnitus[3]
  • Severe pain in the stomach, sometimes with diarrhea (including blood); pancreatitis[1][3][4][7]
  • Frequent or persistent infections, unexplained bruising/bleeding (potential blood disorder)[7]
  • Liver problems: yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine[1][2][7]
  • Changes in triglyceride and cholesterol levels; potential cardiovascular risks[1][3][6]
  • Bone and growth changes (especially in growing children and adolescents)[3][6]
  • Muscle weakness or problems moving, severe muscle/bone/joint pain[6][7]

Risks in pregnancy: Oratane is highly teratogenic and can cause severe birth defects if used during pregnancy or if pregnancy occurs within 4 weeks after stopping the medication. Effective contraception is required[1][5].

Most side effects will reverse after stopping Oratane, except for birth defects. Always inform your doctor of any alarming symptoms or if you feel unable to tolerate any side effects[5].
