Mylan diclofenac, like other formulations of diclofenac, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain and inflammation. Its side effects range from common mild effects to serious reactions that require immediate medical attention[1].
-
Common side effects:
- Indigestion, gas, nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Headache, dizziness, drowsiness
- Abnormal lab tests
- Itching or sweating
- Stuffy nose
- Increased blood pressure
- Swelling or pain in your arms or legs
-
Serious side effects (seek medical attention immediately):
- Signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficult breathing, swelling in the face or throat
- Severe skin reaction: fever, sore throat, burning eyes, skin pain, red or purple rash with blistering and peeling
- Signs of heart attack or stroke: chest pain spreading to jaw or shoulder, sudden numbness or weakness, slurred speech, shortness of breath
- Heart problems: swelling, rapid weight gain, shortness of breath
- Kidney problems: little or no urinating, painful or difficult urination, swelling, tiredness
- Liver problems: nausea, diarrhea, upper right-side stomach pain, tiredness, itching, dark urine, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
- Signs of stomach bleeding: bloody or tarry stools, vomiting blood or what looks like coffee grounds
-
Less common or rare side effects:
- Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
- Blurred vision, unusual drowsiness
- Mood changes: confusion, depression, irritability
- Red or painful eyes, red skin lesions
- Trembling or shakiness, trouble sleeping
- Loss of consciousness
- Dose and duration matter: The risk of serious side effects (especially gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, heart attack, or stroke) increases with higher doses and longer use. Diclofenac should be taken at the lowest effective dose and for the shortest necessary duration[1][5][7].
- Not suitable for certain individuals: Diclofenac is not recommended for people with a history of heart disease, circulatory problems, previous heart attack, or stroke, due to a small increased risk of cardiovascular events in these groups[2].
- Allergic or severe reactions: Stop the medication and get medical attention if you experience symptoms like skin rash (no matter how mild), flu-like symptoms, unusual bruising, or yellowing of skin or eyes[1].
- Overdose symptoms (emergency): Agitation, muscle twitching, loss of consciousness, seizures, difficulty breathing, swelling of face or extremities, rapid weight gain[3].
