Zolnoxs Side Effects

Zolnox (zolpidem) is a medication commonly used for short-term treatment of insomnia, but it can cause several side effects, which range from common and mild to serious or even life-threatening[1][3][5].

Common side effects:

  • Drowsiness or next-day grogginess
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or feeling lightheaded
  • Muscle pain or aches
  • Dry mouth or a bitter/metallic taste
  • Diarrhea
  • Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat)
  • Feeling tired or sleepy the next day

These mild adverse effects usually disappear with time, but if they persist, consult a healthcare provider[3][5][7].

Serious side effects:

  • Severe allergic reactions: swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; trouble breathing; skin rash or hives
  • Abnormal thoughts or behaviors: agitation, aggression, hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not real), delusions, acting more outgoing than usual, memory loss (amnesia), depression or worsening depression, suicidal thoughts or behavior changes
  • Complex sleep-related behaviors: performing activities (like driving, eating, or having sex) while not fully awake and having no memory of it
  • Difficult or painful urination, chest pain, fainting, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), unusual bleeding or bruising
  • Trouble breathing or shallow breathing
  • Severe drowsiness, difficulty awakening, confusion, or collapse
  • Increased risk of falls, especially in older adults

Immediate medical attention is required if any signs of a severe allergic reaction, severe drowsiness, confusion, hallucinations, depression, or thoughts of self-harm occur[1][3][5][7][8].

Precautions:

  • Use caution with alcohol or other CNS depressants, as these can increase the risk of dangerous side effects[4].
  • Impaired alertness can persist into the next day, affecting activities like driving[2][4].
  • There is an increased risk of falls and cognitive impairment, particularly in older adults[2].
