Risnia Side Effects

Risnia (risperidone) may cause several side effects, which can range from mild to severe.[1] Common side effects include:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn[1]
  • Dry mouth or increased saliva[1]
  • Increased appetite and weight gain[1][2][4]
  • Stomach pain[1]
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, feeling tired, or unsteady[1][2][7]
  • Restlessness, agitation, anxiety, difficulty sleeping[1][3][7]
  • Movement problems (tremors, twitching, uncontrollable muscle movements, parkinsonism, dystonia, akathisia)[2][3][7]
  • Blurred vision, changes in vision[1][3][7]
  • Dry or discolored skin[1]
  • Difficulty urinating or increased urination[1][3]
  • Cold symptoms (stuffy nose, sore throat, sneezing)[2][7]

Serious side effects can occur and may require immediate medical attention:

  • Fever, muscle stiffness, confusion, fast or irregular pulse, sweating (may indicate neuroleptic malignant syndrome)[2][5]
  • Unusual movements of the face or body you cannot control[1][2][3]
  • Faintness, seizures, falling[1][2][3]
  • Painful, prolonged erection (priapism)[1][2][3]
  • Allergic reactions: rash, itching, hives, swelling of face/throat/lips/eyes, difficulty swallowing/breathing[1][2][5]
  • Decreased sexual ability, breast enlargement or discharge (including in males), missed menstrual periods[1][2][4]
  • Signs of infection: cough, chills, fever, or sore throat[1][2]
  • Low blood cell counts: easy bruising, unusual bleeding, mouth sores, infections[2][4]
  • High blood sugar (increased thirst, urination, dry mouth, fruity breath)[2][4]
  • Sudden weakness, numbness of face/arms/legs, chest pain, speech or vision problems (possible stroke or cardiac event)[3][4]
  • Shuffling walk, slow movements[1][3]

Some side effects are more common or severe in certain groups, such as children (notably weight gain and breast changes) and the elderly (increased risk of falls and confusion).[1][7]
