Perspirex Side Effects

The most common side effects of Perspirex are localized skin irritation, such as itching and stinging, especially after application[1][7]. Most of these irritations are temporary and tend to occur after the first or second use; however, if irritation continues or worsens, it is advised to discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider[1][5].

These skin reactions are more frequent with stronger formulations, such as Perspirex Strong[1]. Applying Perspirex only on dry, unbroken skin, in the evening, and using the recommended amount can help minimize the likelihood of irritation[5]. If you experience mild skin irritation, usually it improves after stopping use for a few days, but persistent or severe reactions may require medical attention[1].

In addition to mild irritation, topical aluminum chloride (the active ingredient in Perspirex) may very rarely cause serious allergic reactions, including breathing difficulties, swelling of the face or throat, hives, dizziness, nausea, or other systemic symptoms[3]. Such severe reactions are uncommon, but if they occur, you should seek immediate medical help and stop using the product.

Itching, stinging, and ongoing irritation were reported in a large patient series, with most cases being slight and short in duration, though some experienced moderate to severe symptoms[7]. There is also a risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (skin darkening) after irritation, particularly for people with skin of color[7].

Perspirex is generally considered safe for most users, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as long as skin is not broken and the product is used as directed[5].
