Damicava Side Effects

Damicava, a fixed-dose combination containing abacavir, dolutegravir, and lamivudine, may cause side effects ranging from mild to serious. More common side effects include nausea, headache, diarrhea, tiredness, vomiting, stomach pain, muscle or joint pain, skin rash, sore throat, cough, and insomnia[1][3][5][7].

Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include:

  • Hypersensitivity reactions (severe rash, fever, general malaise, fatigue, muscle or joint aches, blisters, mouth sores, conjunctivitis, facial swelling, hepatitis, eosinophilia, angioedema). Immediate drug discontinuation is necessary to prevent life-threatening reactions[5][7].
  • Lactic acidosis and severe hepatomegaly with steatosis (potentially fatal liver condition). Signs include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dyspnea, tachypnea, light-colored stool, yellowing of the skin or eyes, loss of appetite, or unusual tiredness[5][3][7].
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising, dark urine, or pain in the upper right part of the stomach[3][1].

Discontinue Damicava immediately and consult your doctor if hypersensitivity or symptoms suggestive of lactic acidosis occur. Monitor for signs of liver dysfunction and allergic reactions throughout treatment[5][3][7].

Some patients may experience mild laxative effects[5].

Other less common or rare side effects may include: dizziness, swelling of the feet or legs, sleepiness, pale skin, red or irritated eyes, red skin lesions (possibly with a purple center), seizures, and swollen painful lymph glands[1].
