Bronkese Compound Side Effects

Bronkese Compound is a cough and cold syrup with multiple active ingredients, and a range of possible side effects—some mild but others potentially severe. The common side effects include drowsiness (from chlorphenamine), dry mouth, mild nervousness or restlessness (from ephedrine), increased heart rate, and difficulty sleeping if taken late in the day[4]. Gastro-intestinal issues such as nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhoea have been reported, sometimes leading to fainting in sensitive individuals[1][5]. Some users have also noted headache and dizziness[3].

Central nervous system effects may occur, including fear, anxiety, restlessness, tremor, insomnia, confusion, irritability, and psychotic states[1]. Patients have also reported symptoms like seizures and severe agitation with overdose, or when the medication’s levels in the blood become too high[2][3].

Cardiovascular effects are particularly notable: vasoconstriction, rise in blood pressure, fast or irregular heartbeat, palpitations, anginal pain, cardiac arrhythmia, and in rare cases, cerebral hemorrhage or cardiac arrest[1]. Flushing, reflex bradycardia, hypotension (dizziness or fainting), and pulmonary edema have also been noted[1].

Other potential side effects include sweating, hypersalivation, urinary retention or difficulty urinating, altered glucose metabolism, and shortness of breath[1]. Allergic reactions, while rare, can be serious; symptoms may include rash, hives, swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), and trouble breathing—emergency care is required in these cases[2][3].

Contraindications include acute coronary disease, cardiac asthma, severe hypertension, hyperthyroidism, and peptic ulceration. Patients on MAOI antidepressants or those who have recently stopped these medications should not use Bronkese Compound due to the risk of severe interactions[1][4]. Use is not recommended during pregnancy or lactation without medical advice, and caution is advised in children under six years old[4].
