Acitab 400 Dt Side Effects

Acitab 400 DT contains acyclovir and is used to treat viral infections such as herpes simplex, chickenpox, and shingles. Like all medicines, it can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them[2].

Common Side Effects:

  • Headache and dizziness[7]
  • Nausea (feeling sick) or vomiting[1]
  • Diarrhoea and stomach cramps[1]
  • Weakness or feeling tired[3]
  • Skin rashes (including after exposure to sunlight)[7]
  • Minor skin reactions e.g., hives/nettle rash[7]
  • Fever[7]
  • Hair loss[3]

Less Frequent or Rare Side Effects:

  • Itching[7]
  • Difficulty breathing[7]
  • Changes in some blood or urine tests (inform your doctor if you’re being tested while on treatment)[7]
  • Liver problems, or yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)[7]
  • Muscle pain or cramps[3]
  • Skin sensitivity to sunlight[8]

Serious Side Effects – Seek Medical Attention Immediately:

  • Severe allergic reactions, which may include sudden wheezing, fluttering or tightness in the chest, collapse, swelling of eyelids, face, lips, or elsewhere, skin rash or hives[7]
  • Kidney problems: reduced urination, swelling of feet/ankles/legs, weakness, difficulty breathing, confusion, nausea, or seizures[1]
  • Mood or mental changes: agitation, hallucinations, confusion, unsteady movements[3]
  • Severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome): mouth sores, blisters, peeling rash[3]

If you experience any of these serious side effects, stop taking Acitab 400 DT and contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital immediately.
